ENDOWMENTS

The Center for Philippine Studies (CPS) has four endowments, and major sources of scholarships for UH students who conduct topical research on the Philippines or Filipinos, including those in the diaspora. Applicants from other institutions or countries are not eligible.

Only UH student applicants on good standing can apply for one grant at a time and is limited by the maximum amount stipulated in each grant.

Also, please note that CPS does not fund or reimburse projects that are already done, for example seminars attended prior to the application.  Although there are deadlines, all application materials must be submitted at least 30 days before the scheduled event, or departure in case of planned travel for fieldwork.

Belinda A. Aquino International Philippine Studies Endowment (Up to $2,000)
The purpose of this Fund is to promote and enhance academic and professional studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa on the Philippines and Filipinos from an international, comparative, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary perspective. It will encourage and support the study of diasporic and global issues affecting Philippine society and culture, and Filipino communities overseas. Expenditures may relate to Philippine studies in Hawai‘i, the United States or elsewhere, and especially with reference to Asia-Pacific. More…

 

Ligaya Fruto Pamana Endowment (Up to $1,000)
To honor the memory of Ligaya Fruto, Filipino writer and community leader through scholarships, fellowships, seminars, cultural performances and other activities related to the mission of the University of Hawai`i at Manoa School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Center for Philippine studies, to promote studies and interest in Philippine society and culture. Corky Trinidad Endowment Fund (Up to $2,000)
To provide assistance to students, scholars and researchers at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa in the fields of journalism, mass communications, fine arts, performing arts, international studies, media studies and human rights who have an academic focus or interest on Philippine studies, society and culture, and who have demonstrated a strong commitment to acquiring a deeper understanding of or learning about the Philippines, its people, traditions and values, and institutions over time. Yuchengco Endowment for Philippine Studies (Up to $2,000)
To support the academic mission of the University of Hawai`i at Manoa Center for Philippine Studies through student and scholarships/fellowships, conferences, seminars, research and publications, visiting faculty, lecture series, educational exchange and other activities that enhance the Center’s leadership role in Philippine affairs, including Filipinos overseas, in the Asia-Pacific region.
