Professional, non-faculty type positions that require a baccalaureate degree such as Research Associates, Educational Specialist, Administrative Officers, Auxiliary and Facilities Services Officers, etc. are classified through the Broadband System. APT positions are assigned to a Pay Band based on work complexity and scope of responsibility within a specific Career Group. The Vice Presidents and Chancellors are delegated authorities to classify APT positions at their respective campuses.

REDESCRIBE A POSITION DESCRIPTION
Positions can evolve over time which shall require an update to the major duties and responsibilities. Level of knowledge, skills and abilities are normally maintained and require no change in compensation. This may include minor changes in responsibilities and/or organizational change.
HIRE A SELECTEE
All prospective employees who are hired above step one of the respective pay band requires prior approval of the Designated New Hire Rate (DNHR) by the Manoa Chancellor. Selectees hired at step one of the respective pay band do not require a DNHR. Please work with your unit’s HR Representative to coordinate the official hiring process.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Supervisors shall communicate performance expectations to their employees to foster a work environment that encourages active staff participation, growth and development. Supervisors shall relay their expected results to their employees so that they can fully satisfy performance of a job.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
The performance evaluation serves as a tool to review and measure employees performance. The evaluation process is also instrumental in determining whether an employee’s skill set is appropriately matched to the employee’s job. Supervisors shall complete the online evaluation for their APT employees in accordance with Administrative Procedures A9.170 Performance Evaluation of APT.
IN-GRADE ADJUSTMENTS
Positions are dynamic and can change and mature naturally as employees assume higher responsibilities. Positions may be considered for reclassificaiton based on established performance factors with possible percentage increase in compensation.
SPECIAL COMPENSATION ADJUSTMENT (SCA) – PERFORMANCE AWARD
The one-time performance award is intended to recognize and reward exceptional performance during the annual rating period. An APT performance evaluation must be fully executed by the annual October 31 deadline before a nomination can be initiated. Nominated employees must also meet eligibility criteria.
