Week 3 Manaʻo for Cohort Kaulua October 17, 2025

Cohort Kaulua participants gathered in the shade of a kamani tree while experiencing a tour of the JABSOM and Cancer Center campuses, led by our wonderful past Cohort Kumukahi participant Michelle.

During the third week of this cohort session, we had the wonderful opportunity to visit the ʻāina of Kaʻākaukukui and deepen our pilina with new places and new people. While visiting the māla lāʻau lapaʻau today, I noticed many changes since the last time our cohort had visited the medicinal plant garden: ʻawapuhi kuahiwi (a.k.a. shampoo ginger) blooming in late-season abundance, a baby manuokū (white tern) chirping in the branches of kukui above us, and new sprouts of kamani emerging from the upper branches of the trees that lined our walkway. Throughout the day’s discussions, we heard really beautiful reflections about folks’ experiences and stories, and these ideas are emerging and sprouting like the many renewed forms of life and ʻāina we experienced today.
