Week 2 Manaʻo for Cohort Kaulua October 10, 2025

Cohort participants admiring the large kalo growing in the loʻi named Kaleiheana at Ka Papa Loʻi ʻo Kānewai.

Throughout our time together during the second week of our October cohort, one idea that kept popping up for me was the importance of names. At this point of getting to know everyone over the next few Fridays, I am learning more of our participants’ names (especially after a few rounds of our speed dating activity) and learning more specific insights about the names of ʻāina. The winds have been responding to us when we call out the names of our ever-present kūpuna and kaikuaʻana, even our wind Kahaukani. With the heat of the day, the cool winds definitely were a source of nourishment!
