Anahulu Poepoe 6/5 – 6/14/2025

UHM NH Updates: Anahulu Poepoe, Iune 2025 Thursday 6/5 - Saturday 6/14

Kou flowers that have bloomed and fallen onto the sidewalk at Ka Papa Loʻi ʻo Kānewai.

Aloha mai kākou,

As many of us are attending graduation parties and celebrating the accomplishments of the graduates around us, here’s a relevant ʻōlelo noʻeau for us to incorporate into our congratulations:

Ke kōpiko i ka piko o Waiʻaleʻale.

A kōpiko tree on the summit of Waiʻaleʻale.

A boast about an outstanding person. —ʻŌN#1756

This phrase is useful for boasting about loved ones regardless of the circumstances, and I appreciate the imagery and symbolism that the ʻāina provides for us to do so. With the Mōhalu moon rising tonight, the ʻāina is blooming too!

Anahulu Reflection:

How else might the ʻāina show you (k)new ways of celebrating the people who are close to you?
