UHM NH Updates: Anahulu Poepoe, Iune 2025 Thursday 6/5 - Saturday 6/14
Aloha mai kākou,
Our office weekly chooses a new huaʻōlelo hou, or a new word in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, every Monday during our weekly chanting, and recently we have been reflecting on the term holowaʻa. The second definition listed is the sheath that covers coconut flowers, and I haven’t been able to stop noticing and appreciating the blooming palms and Loulu all around campus recently. In the above photo, which I took near Hawaiʻi Hall, this younger and smaller Loulu is more my height, and I was able to revel in the beauty of seeing these blooms up close!
Anahulu Reflection:
There are so many iconic Loulu and palms around campus and beyond—do you have any favorites?
