University of Hawaiʻi Press is proud to partner with Oxford University Press to announce the launching of Hawaiʻi Scholarship Online (HSO). Now live on the University Press Scholarship Online (UPSO) platform, HSO includes hundreds of books published by UH Press in a full-text, searchable, cross-referenced XML environment. HSO is available by annual subscription or purchase to libraries and institutions and can be accessed at http://hawaii.universitypressscholarship.com/. For a limited time, to celebrate the launch of this groundbreaking research tool, selected chapters from a range of titles published by UH Press are freely available on the HSO website.

Joel Cosseboom, University of Hawai‘i Press interim director and publisher, said of the partnership, “We are excited to join other outstanding presses within this innovative digital resource by adding our list to UPSO. By joining the UPSO platform, UH Press advances its core mission of disseminating scholarly knowledge about Asia and the Pacific as widely as possible. The launch of Hawai‘i Scholarship Online is the culmination of months of collaborative effort between our digital publishing team and that of Oxford University Press.”

HSO launches with more than 350 scholarly monographs across four primary modules: Anthropology, History, Religion, and Society and Culture. Included are essential works from the Korean Classics Library, the highly regarded Southeast Asia: Politics, Meaning, and Memory series, and thematic volumes focused on Native Hawaiian knowledge and methodologies that are jointly published with the UH Mānoa Hawai‘inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge.

With the launch of HSO comes the introduction of a new UPSO subdiscipline for Pacific Studies, an area of growing global significance and scholarly potential. University of Hawai‘i Press’s core collection in Pacific Studies includes selections from several notable series: Pacific Islands MonographsTopics in the Contemporary Pacific and Perspectives on the Global Past.

UPSO aims to streamline research by providing scholars and students with a single online platform for discovering, reading and searching scholarly monographs published by many university presses. It offers library integration and flexible purchasing models to facilitate access throughout the global academic market.

HSO offers:
• Instant online access to a growing number of UH Press monographs in an XML-based digital hosting environment with deep tagging and advanced search functionality.
• A regular publishing schedule that makes cutting-edge works of scholarship available in full-text digital format faster than ever before.
• Personalization of the site, including the ability to save searches and favorite books for quick and easy access during future visits.
• The ability to read online or download a PDF of a chosen chapter for offline, on-the-go reading.
• On the wider UPSO platform, discovery of tens of thousands of high-quality cross-referenced and cross-searchable works in more than 30 subject areas from 22 of the most prestigious presses in the world.
