Delegates of the Biennial Convention of the Hawai‘i State Association of Parliamentarians recently elected University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu’s Dr. William J. Puette as president for 2011-2013.
 
Puette is the faculty director of UH West O‘ahu’s Center for Labor Education & Research (CLEAR), where he teaches classes on parliamentary procedure, among other subjects, as part of the CLEAR program. He serves as the parliamentarian for the UH West O‘ahu faculty senate and is one of the state’s only professional registered parliamentarians.
 
The Hawai‘i State Association of Parliamentarians is comprised of 191 member parliamentarians and is the state division of the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP). Founded in 1930, the NAP helps organizations conduct business efficiently through education and advocacy of effective meeting procedures and the accreditation of all meeting professionals.
 
CLEAR serves as the clearinghouse for labor education matters in the state of Hawai‘i and provides credit and non-credit labor studies courses, and labor-related research and educational services for workers and their organizations.
