UH Mānoa will host its third Warrior Intramural Debate Tournament on Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Shidler College of Business.  More than 20 invited teams from UH Mānoa, local community colleges and Hawaiʻi Pacific University will participate.

At HPU’s Pan-Pacific debate competition in February, UH Mānoa placed second overall, winning the Island Division for a second year in row.

UH Mānoa Debate Team members Keoni Davey and Jay-me Morita (UH C) reached the semi-finals, which Kyle Dahlin and Christian Gilbert (UH B) only narrowly missed.  The A team, comprised of Daniel Hugo and Eliot St. John, advanced to an extremely tight final at HPU’s Hawaiʻi Loa campus in Kaneohe on the topic: “World markets should welcome the fall of the euro.”

Also, generous support from the Speech Department, the Friends of Forensics Fund, ASUH and Dean Thomas Bingham of the College of Arts and Humanities allowed the Warrior Debate Team to attend last month’s Nationals tournament at the University of Vermont.

With almost 200 teams competing, this was the second-largest British Parliamentary tournament ever, and featured colleges from across the country—including top programs like Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Cornell. International teams, from Australia to Morocco, also were represented.
