The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Alumni and Friends Association has awarded scholarships to Sarah Nicolaisen and Corina Sampaia.

Nicolaisen, a junior biology major, will receive a $2,000 alumni scholarship plus a $2,000 scholarship from the Two-Ten Golf Club in the name of Stanley I. Hara. Sampaia, a junior mathematics major, will receive a $1,500 alumni scholarship.

Nicolaisen, who was salutatorian in her graduating class at Kaʻu High School, plans to become a primary care physician. Sampaia, a Hilo High School graduate, plans to become a high school math teacher.

Scholarship recipients are selected based primarily on academic merit and secondarily on financial need, and must be or have an immediate family member who is a UH Hilo alumnus. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,000 each, depending on funds available. A total of 17 alumni scholarships have been awarded since 2004.
