Marjorie Sinclair to read from her poetry, fiction and prose

Marjorie Sinclair, recipient of the Hawai'i Writer's Award for
Literature in 1981, will read from her poetry, fiction, and prose as part of a program entitled "The Place Your Body Is," to be held on Tuesday, May 28 at the Center for Korean Studies Auditorium, 1881 East-West Road, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. A reception will begin at 7:00.

Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and educated at Mills College,
California, Marjorie Sinclair came to Hawai'i in 1935. She quickly entered into the life of the Islands, studying Chinese and Japanese, and learning the hula from 'Iolani Luahine. From 1955 until 1980, she taught in the Department of English of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. She has published poetry, novels, short stories, and translations, as well as a
biography of Nahi'ena'ena, the daughter of Kamehameha I.

The evening will feature readings from Marjorie Sinclair's work by the author and others. Admission is free. This event is co-sponsored by the Department of English, and the Center for Biographical Research at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, and the Hawai'i Literary Arts Council.
