Construction is scheduled to begin the week of January 12, 2009 on a Science and Technology Building at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. The new building is expected to be completed by August 2010, and will be located on the current site of the Beaumont Building on Lanikaula Street.

The project requires the closure of the Life Sciences Building parking lot, which will be done beginning Friday, January 9. Additional Red Zone parking opened last semester by the Old Gym and there is new Blue Zone parking just above the bridge on Lanikaula Street.

Once the construction zone is secured, all hazardous materials will be removed from the Beaumont Building and the building will be demolished to make way for construction.

"UH Hilo is anxiously looking forward to the opportunity to have this new Science and Technology Building, which will provide state-of-the-art laboratories and science classrooms that are so badly needed by our students and faculty," said Dr. Debra Fitzsimons, vice chancellor of administrative affairs. "This facility will better serve UH Hilo and the Big Island for many years to come."

The university apologizes for any inconvenience during this construction period.
