Peter Quigley named Leeward Community College chancellor

HONOLULU — The University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents appointed Peter Quigley, interim chancellor at Leeward Community College (LCC), to the permanent position at its monthly meeting held this week at the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Kakaʻako. Quigley‘s appointment is for three years, effective May 22, 2006.

"Peter has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to Leeward Community College and we‘re happy to have this permanent status awarded to him as the campus continues its efforts to meet the academic and cultural needs of the expanding Leeward Oʻahu region," said UH Interim Vice President for Community Colleges John Morton.

With more than 25 years of experience in higher education, Quigley has served as LCC‘s interim chancellor since June 2005, and was previously vice chancellor and chief academic officer of the Leeward Oʻahu campus. Prior to arriving at LCC, he served as dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at Minnesota State University. Quigley has taught at several community colleges and has been a professor of English and humanities at universities in the United States and Europe.

A Fulbright Scholar, Quigley has published numerous articles and a book in the field of environmental literature. He holds a PhD in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania; MA and BA, both in English, from California State University, Fullerton; and an AA from Fullerton College. Quigley was recently elected president of the Robinson Jeffers Association and is one of four editors of the Jeffers Studies, the journal of record on 20th-century California poet Robinson Jeffers.
