MEDIA ADVISORY: Blessing/opening for new UH Mānoa student/faculty apartments, Hale Haukani

WHAT: University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa will hold a blessing ceremony for Hale Haukani, a brand new $170-million student and faculty apartment facility. 

WHO: UH President Wendy Hensel, Hawaiʻi Gov. Josh Green, M.D., Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, state legislators, City and County of Honolulu officials, community leaders, faculty and students 
 

WHEN: Monday, August 18

HIGHLIGHTS:

• UH’s second public-private partnership (P3) student housing project, providing modern student housing facilities using minimal public funds and tuition dollars. 
• The 316-unit complex will provide 558 beds for graduate and undergraduate students and junior faculty
• Two towers: 18 and 12 stories, with studios, two, three and four-bedroom units
• Preschool facility, retail space, study rooms, bike storage, laundry, outdoor amenity decks, etc.
• The new preschool facility will also provide valuable early childhood educational training for future educators. 
• With the opening of the facility, UH Mānoa will now have more than 4,000 beds on campus, the most in the university’s history.
• Designed to meet LEED Silver Certification as part of UH’s net-zero energy goal by 2035
