Students, faculty and staff enthusiastically waved signs and loudly cheered on the lawn fronting the University of Hawaiʻi’s Bachman Hall in Mānoa, as approving motorists honked their horns while driving along University Avenue and Dole Street.

On April 9, UH Giving Day demonstrated the power of collective philanthropy, with donors across Hawaiʻi and beyond rallying together to support UH students, faculty and programs across the state.

“Our students mean everything to us, and we can only support them with the help of the community. So please, anything you can do makes a big difference whether it's $5 or $5,000. We'd love to hear from you today,” said UH President Wendy Hensel.

Opportunity for impact

UH Giving Day is an opportunity for the community to make a lasting impact by contributing gifts of any size to initiatives that advance education, innovation and student success in Hawai‘i.

Scholarship recipient Tam Dang, a student in the UH Mānoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene, said her education would not have been possible without the support she received from UH.

Dang said, “The scholarship support that I have received has been truly momentous. My family are immigrants and low income, and money has always been tight.”

UH Mānoa Electrical Engineering student Jenny Brown, a scholarship recipient who also earned two degrees from Kapiʻolani Community College, said, “$5 and up, any amount really does have significant impact to students like me. So please support our community.”

The impact of Giving Day goes far beyond a single event—it helps shape the future of UH and Hawai‘i for generations to come.

“Whether you made a gift, shared your story or inspired others to give, you played a vital role in something truly impactful,” said Tim Dolan, UH Foundation CEO and UH VP of Advancement. “Your kindness generates opportunities, ignites innovation and creates lasting change for our students, faculty and the entire UH community.”
