University of Hawaii at Manoa Professor Offers Free Investment Lectures

HONOLULU-- Ron Wall, Ph.D., a specialist in Family Economics and Managementwith the Cooperative Extension Service at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa(UHM) will be giving three, half-hour lectures on "Investing Made ReallySimple," on Friday, February 9, 2001 at 11:30 a.m., 12 p.m. and12:30 p.m. at the UHM Bookstore, located on the ground level of theCampus Center. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Wall has authored a book called You and Your Money, Financial Reflectionsfor a Lifetime, published by the UHM College of Tropical Agricultureand Human Resources. The book presents a lifelong approach to the importantissues and considerations of money in our lives and the lives of those whosurround us and covers topics such as the fundamentals of finance; marriageand money; and building a financial future. Following the lectures, Wallwill do a book signing. The cost of the book is $6.95, but attendees ofthe lectures will receive a 10% discount if they purchase the book duringthe event.

Since 1982, Wall has been a specialist with the Cooperative ExtensionService at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa where he researches financialissues of importance to consumers and provides financial education, counselingand training to a broad spectrum of community organizations, agencies andpublic clientele. During the past decade, he authored over 200 publications,founded the University's Family Financial Counseling Program and initiatedthe Financial Counseling Certificate Program to train financial counselors. In 1993, he was awarded the "Financial Counselor of the Year"by the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education. Wall'sarticles on financial matters have appeared regularly in the Sunday editionof The Honolulu Advertiser since 1996.

Wall has been involved in financial education and counseling for over25 years. He began this involvement with the Mountain-Plains Educationand Economic Development Program in Glasgow, Montana where he led the development,implementation, and testing of a life-skills education and counseling programfunded by the National Institute of Education. He earned a doctorate infamily economics at Kansas State University and later taught financial educationand counseling at the graduate and undergraduate levels at New Mexico StateUniversity.
