Kapi‘olani CC seeks visionary, collaborative leader

The search for Kapi‘olani Community College’s new chancellor has begun. The position was announced locally and nationally on July 22,, and the expected start date for the position is January 3, 2023. Kapi‘olani CC Chancellor Louise Pagotto is planning to retire at the end of December 2022. She will have served more than 33 years at Kapi‘olani CC, with more than four years as chancellor.

“Kapi‘olani CC is seeking a visionary and collaborative leader who can guide the college to address challenges and opportunities with an effective approach,” said Erika Lacro, University of Hawaiʻi vice president for community colleges. “The next chancellor must embody Kapi‘olani CC’s vision as a model Indigenous-serving institution whose graduates strengthen the social, economic and sustainable advancement of Hawai‘i and the world.”

Search timeline

  • August 2022: The Chancellor Search Advisory Committee (CSAC) plans to begin screening applicants and nominees.

  • October 2022: In addition to in-person finalist interviews, on-campus visits will be scheduled to ensure that students, faculty, staff, administrators and other stakeholders are able to attend open forums.

  • November 2022: Lacro plans to submit her recommended candidate for appointment to UH President David Lassner.

  • January 2023: Expected start date of the new chancellor.

The 19-member committee includes representation from Kapi‘olani CC’s constituency groups: faculty, students, ʻAha Kalāualani Council (Native Hawaiian), civil service staff, Administrative Professional and Technical (APT) staff, administrator, organizational units and community leaders.
