HOW:   With the assistance of the UH Online Innovation Center (UHOIC) and instructional designers and faculty on every campus.

OTHER FACTS:

  • UHOIC has been providing a range of resources to help faculty get ready, including a teaching online checklist with tutorials, interactive online mini-lessons, and online office hours.

  • Every campus has been providing instructional design help to their faculty.

  • Faculty with experience have volunteered to help their colleagues, both on their campus and across the system.

  • Kapi‘olani Community College is already a nationally recognized leader in preparing faculty for online education. The Teaching Online Preparation Program (TOPP) has received two national awards over the last year. The Kapi‘olani CC Distance Education Team, is also this year's UH nominee for the Governor's Award for Team Excellence Award of Merit.

SOUND:

Hae Okimoto, University of Hawai‘i Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Academic Technology Services (says faculty have been rising to the occasion) (14 seconds)

“Itʻs more of,  ‘What can I do now? What can I do today, tomorrow, next week so that my students will get as good experience as they possibly can?’ So that has been amazing.”

Okimoto (20 seconds)

“For a lot of our faculty this is their first time teaching online. And so I think from faculty, administrators, students, parents, weʻre doing the best that we can. Because our goal is we want our students to get the best education they can during these extraordinary times so they can finish and continue to graduate.”
