Emma Kamahana was connected to her relative from Kalaupapa through the Restoration of Family Ties.

On Tuesday, February 25 from 5:00–6:00 p.m., Valerie Monson, executive director of Ka 'Ohana O Kalaupapa, will present "The Restoration of Family Ties” at Hale La‘akea Library Learning Commons, third-floor conference room. Free and open to the public. Access to the third floor is available by elevator.

Based on interviews and writing about the people of Kalaupapa for more than 30 years, Monson’s narrated slide show features historical and modern-day photos that tell the stories of how Ka 'Ohana O Kalaupapa has helped hundreds of descendants reconnect to their Kalaupapa ancestors. Monson especially hopes that some of the Kalaupapa descendants will attend and share their stories.

Supported by Ka ‘Ohana O Kalaupapa, the IDEA Center for the Voices of Humanity, and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
