UH Manoa School of Law presents inaugural Galiher Ono Public Lecture Series

HONOLULU — Paul Brest, former dean of Stanford Law School and current president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in Menlo Park, Calif., is the guest speaker at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law‘s Inaugural Galiher Ono Public Lecture Series on Thursday, March 10. Brest will speak on "The Critique of Pure Reason: The Role of Intuition in Judgment and Decision-making."

The lecture will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Classroom 2 of the William S. Richardson School of Law (2515 Dole Street) with a reception to follow. It is free and open to the public.

Brest received an A.B. from Swarthmore College in 1962, and an LL.B. from Harvard Law School in 1965. He served as law clerk to Supreme Court Justice John M. Harlan, and practiced with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., in Jackson, Miss., doing civil rights litigation before joining the Stanford Law School faculty in 1969. From 1987 to 1999, he served as the dean of Stanford Law School. Brest is the co-author of "Processes of Constitutional Decision-making, (4th ed., 2000)," and currently teaches a law school course at Stanford on "Problem-solving, Decision-making, and Professional Judgment."

The Galiher Ono Distinguished Public Lecture Series was established by Gary Galiher, MED ‘71, J.D. ‘77, and Diane Ono, B.A. ‘73, J.D. ‘91, to motivate, educate and inspire the people of Hawaiʻi on how to improve the social, economic, cultural, and political well-being of the state by highlighting the William S. Richardson School of Law and the University of Hawaiʻi‘s commitment of service to the state‘s communities.
