Hello everyone! My name is Jamie Ortiz, and I joined the College of Natural Sciences, Student Academic Success Center as one of the drop-in advisors in the Fall of 2025.
I was born in Honolulu, but grew up in the Bay Area of Northern California. As a first-generation college student, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in Integrative Biology. My professional background includes Human Resources consulting in Silicon Valley. W and while earning a graduate certificate in Ethnic Studies from San Francisco State University, I served on a DEI task force at a local school district. In 2024, my family and I decided to start a new chapter and moved to O‘ahu, Hawai‘’i. I initiated a career change, and I am currently earning a graduate degree in Academic Advising at Kansas State University. I am a life-long learner, and my personal interests include travel, art, volunteerism, public speaking (Toastmasters International, East-West Club at UH Mānoa), outrigger canoe paddling, and pickleball. When I have free time, I love watching movies and shows with good story-telling, going on culinary adventures, exploring new places, and trying new things.
I am proud to be a part of the UH Mānoa community, and I look forward to supporting you in reaching your academic and personal goals!
