Rodel Domingoʻs article “What non-ensemble music course most influenced your growth as a music teacher, and why?” was published in the October 2025 issue of Teaching Music, NAfME’s national music education journal.
“John Donaldson, a member of the NAfME staff team, reached out to me about contributing a quote for the October issue of Teaching Music magazine, focusing on a ‘non-music ensemble course that influenced my growth as a music teacher,” stated Domingo. “I chose to reflect on MUS457: Asian and Pacific in Education. This course was my first opportunity to teach in front of a class and it helped me develop a strong sense of advocacy for music education in Hawaiʻi. I knew that many readers might be unfamiliar with Hawaiʻi’s music education landscape, and because the magazine is distributed nationally, I saw this as a meaningful opportunity to highlight how we, as Hawaiʻi music educators, approach our curriculum, nurture our keiki, and intentionally weave the spirit of aloha into every lesson.”
Domingo is a music education senior and president of the UH NAfME (National Association for Music Education) chapter.
