Department of Music Professor Emeritus Ricardo D. Trimillos presented two guest lectures at the Julius Maximilian University Würzburg, Germany on 10 June. He discussed two historical aspects of the 1931 operetta “Die Blume von Hawaii” (The flower of Hawai’i)—its basis in the 1893 overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom and its significance for Germany during the Nazi era and after reunification. The second presentation analyzed Filipino gender constructions of masculinity through music and dance. He also visited the ethnomusicological instrument collection of the Institute for Music Research and consulted with Institute colleagues.
