(Lecturer Series recital – free admission)

Trio Soulaire is a brand new chamber group following the heritage of the traditional clarinet trio but with a new spin.  The clarinet and piano remain in this ensemble with the saxophone replacing the usual string instrument.  This unique combination allows for increased balance and greater power over the conventional trio.

The name Soulaire is of French origin, referring to an easterly wind. It can also loosely be interpreted as, “soulful air” or broken apart phonetically into the solfege pitches, “So, La, Re.”   The three members of the trio are: Melanie Yukumoto (clarinet), Katy Luo (piano), and Todd Yukumoto (saxophone).

This trio’s premiere performance will feature:

  • 8 pieces by Max Bruch
  • Quiet City by Aaron Copeland (with special guest Max Ignas, trumpet)
  • SoundMovesBlues by Robert Livingston Aldridge

Music students: This concert is eligible for Mus 199 concert attendance credit.
