The UH Contemporary Music Ensemble presents a concert of music by two eminent American composers and two emerging young composers. Shakuhachi soloist Christopher Yohmei Blasdel will join composer Christopher Molina for a performance of Molina’s shakuhachi duo Life in a Cage, and violinist Helen Liu will solo in Lou Harrison’s Concerto in Slendro. The ensemble will also present movements from George Crumb’s landmark Makrokosmos III: Music for a Summer Evening, for 2 pianists and 2 percussionists, as well as the Hawaii premiere of David Biedenbender’s Red Vesper, a work that blends live performance with the sounds of nature. Featured guest and alumni performers will join current students on stage for many of the performances.
Tickets: $10 general admission; $6 UH students/faculty/staff and seniors (65+); UHM music majors free.
Eligible for Mus 199 concert attendance credit.
