Before his appointment to the piano faculty at the University of Hawaii in 1970, Edward Shipwright was a member of the upper division and preparatory department faculties of the Juilliard School in New York. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Juilliard. The title of his doctoral dissertation at Columbia University Teachers College is The Late Piano Works of Franz Liszt. Dr. Shipwright’s distinguished teachers include Alton Jones, Sascha Gorodnitzki, and Martin Canin.
Dr. Shipwright gave 24 solo faculty recitals at U.H. His students have been prize winners in important national competitions, and he served as an adjudicator in such competitions on the mainland.
