Dr. Chet-Yeng Loong
Professor of Music
Dr. Loong, a native Malaysian Chinese, has completed all levels in Kodaly and Orff-Schulwerk and is certified in both of these methods. Before coming to the University of Hawai‘i, Dr. Loong taught music in the public schools of Malaysia and at Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio.
She has presented at local (Cleveland Orff-Chapter, Hawai‘i Islands: Kaua‘i, Maui, O‘ahu, Hawai‘i Island, New York City Orff-Chapter, Hawai‘i Orff-Schulwerk Chapter, NOCKA, Baldwin-Wallace College, Cleveland State University, Kent State University, The University of Akron, The University of Hawa‘i), state (HAEYC, HMEA, LCCC, MMEA, OAEYC, OMEA, Peak-Arts Association, Boulder, Colorado, WMEA), regional (MENC, MKMEA), national (Suzuki National Conference, MENC, OAKE, AOSA), and international (ISME, Kuala Lumpur and Beijing) conferences. Dr. Loong has also presented internationally in Korea (Gyeongin National University of Education, Korea Music Education Society Conference, Seoul National University of Education), Malaysia (Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Teknologi MARA, University Malaysia Sabah), and a series of Early Childhood Music workshops in China (Beijing, Changsha, Chifeng, Guiyang, Kaifeng, Nanjing, Shandong, Shanghai, Suzhou, Urumqi, Xian, Yiwu, and Yunnan).
As a researcher, Dr. Loong has presented at the MENC poster session, the Early Childhood Music Conference at Michigan State University, the Desert Sky Research Symposium at Arizona State and the Symposium for Music Teacher Education, Greensboro, North Carolina. Her research on early childhood and elementary music has been published in several leading journals (Bulletin of the International Kodaly Society, Early Childhood Connections, Early Childhood Spotlight – MENC, Kodaly Envoy, Malaysia Music Journal, Perspectives – ECMMA, Triad, and Orff Echo).
Currently, Dr. Loong serves as chair of the music education area at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, president of the Hawai‘i Music Education Association. She also serves on the editorial board of the Orff Echo, Korean Journal of Research in Music Education, a reviewer for the Malaysia Music Journal, and a member of the steering committee of the Alliance for Active Music Making in General Music Teacher Education.
She was the past conference chair of HMEA and past chair of the AOSA Research Committee. Dr. Loong is the director of the Bambini, Stellini, and Angeli Ensembles for the Hawai‘i Youth Opera Chorus. In 2012, Dr. Loong was awarded as the outstanding music education alumni from the University of Akron where she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

龙籍莹博士 美国夏威夷州立大学音乐教育系主任、终生教授,博导; 美国夏威夷音乐教育协会主席;美国奥尔夫协会全国期刊编委;韩国音乐教育研究期刊编委;马来西亚音乐期刊审稿委员;前美国奥尔夫协会音乐教育研究委员会主席;美国AAMM音乐教师教育协会指导委员;夏威夷歌剧合唱团指挥。龙博士是美国奥尔夫、柯达伊协会认证的教师。定期在世界音乐教育年会、全美奥尔夫年会、柯达伊年会和全美音乐教学大会上发表演讲。她在幼儿、小学、世界音乐教学方面的研究成果定期发表在世界领先教育期刊上。她的相关文章亦发表在《TRIAD》、《奥尔夫期刊》、《柯达伊期刊》、《幼儿早期教育》等业内主流媒体上。 2012年,龙博士荣获Akron 大学杰出校友奖。
