Tokyo University of Foreign Studies – Short Stay Summer Program

Program Terms:

Summer Term

Overview:

This program is a 3 week intensive Japanese Language course designed to improve students’ conversational skills by improving their grammar and vocabulary. The university is located in Fuchu city, Tokyo, and is surrounded by a peaceful natural environment, while being just a short distance from Tama station and Tobitakyu station, making downtown Tokyo and lively student areas easily accessible by train. Here, students have the chance to experience all the exciting city has to offer, while coming home to a peaceful place to relax, study, and stay during their exchange.

Academic Details:

The program divides students by 3 levels of proficiency, determined by a placement test conducted on the first day of the program. Students will have 3 or 4 classes conducted Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-10:00 am and 10:10am-11:40 am. Class sizes are small, with a maximum of 15 students per class. Students will complete 45 contact hours by the end of the program.

Housing Details:

Students are responsible for sourcing their own accomodation, however on-campus dormitory rooms will be available for a short period of time (13 days) to those enrolled in the program. All rooms are single rooms with a private bathroom, but if students choose this option they must have accommodation arranged for their stay outside of this time period. Other options include a homestay with a Japanese family, or a room in a hotel near the University. The University recommends Chofu Urban Hotel or Hotel Musashinonomori, but students are welcome to arrange their own accommodation outside of these options.
