Overview:

Tohoku University or Tohokudai is one of Japan’s national seven universities, located in Sendai, Miyagi in the Tōhoku Region, and is built of the ancient grounds of Sendai castle. At this prestigious and historical University, students will have the opportunity to study Japanese during two 2 week-long programs in July and August. Students have the chance to thoroughly immerse themselves in Japanese culture both in and out of the classroom. The program offers intensive Japanese classes with a range of proficiency levels from beginner to intermediate learners. The program also involves topical seminars on Japanese culture and society to enhance what was learned in their classes. Opportunities such as home-stays, field trips, and other cultural activities are also available to students seeking to gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and society.

Academic Details:

The program is aimed to develop students’ communication skills in Japanese, while also focusing on culture and society. The course is made up of lectures and workshops covering topics ranging from Japanesese Law to Karate. Upon completion of the program, students will be awarded 4 ECTS credits. Classes are taught mainly in English, and some in Japanese.

Housing Details:

The University does not provide accommodation for students studying less than 3 months, therefore students are required to find their own accommodation at  private apartment or hotel. They do however recommend Hostel Kiko for students wanting to find safe, affordable accommodation for their stay.
