Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) is a top Chinese university, where students can gain entrepreneurial experience with one of many business partners while enjoying a beautiful campus in a safe and vibrant city. SWUFE is located in Chengdu, Western China’s “engine city” for development and China’s 4th-largest aviation hub. If you enjoy exotic cuisine, the unique foods in Chengdu and Sichuan can be savored in the famous Jinli Street. If you enjoy theatre, the breath-taking traditional Chinese mask changing performances are unbelievable. If you like history and culture, the campus provides easy access to the local World Natural and Cultural Heritage Sites, such as the Sichuan Panda Sanctuaries, the famous Wuhou Shrine, Mount Qingcheng, and the Giant Buddha at Leshan.

While at SWUFE, students will primarily take courses from the Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM). RIEM was established in 2006 and is dedicated to high-quality teaching and research in economics, finance, and management. RIEM enjoys a national and international reputation for its high-quality academic programs and research. RIEM also has a number of student activities such as singing competitions, sports contests, volunteering in primary schools, and much more. Some notable clubs include the RIEM International Student Society, RIEM Debate Team, and the student founded Black Apple Youth Social Entrepreneurship Association. Additionally, the RIEM International Office organizes excursions for foreign students during the fall and spring semesters.

Scholarships:

Scholarships to study abroad offered by the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics include the following:

  1. A round trip ticket from Hawaii to Chengdu, economy class up to 10,000 RMB.  *Student will be reimburse for air ticket up to 10000 RMB
  2. 2500 RMB in accommodation (500 RMB per month for 5 months)

Academic Details:

RIEM distinguishes itself in that all of its faculty members hold doctorates from overseas universities (including the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and France), and all RIEM courses and coursework are conducted entirely in English. There are currently more than 800 students completing degrees at RIEM, including 150 international students. In order to prepare its students for a variety of career paths, the Institute focuses on providing its students with a combination of theoretical and practical instruction.

RIEM is one of the most international teaching and research institutes in China. The Institute has four majors: economics, finance, accounting, and business administration. Its undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs adhere to the top international academic standards. All RIEM classes are taught entirely in English and RIEM is a pioneer in the internationalization of Chinese economics and management schools.

Housing Details:

RIEM offers foreign students single ensuite rooms (with private shower, washbasin, and toilet) on both Liulin and Guanghua Campuses. Each ensuite is furnished with a bed, desk, chair, bookcase, wardrobe, air-conditioner, and internet access. There is a free-of-charge laundry room and a common kitchen on each floor. Rent is around 500 RMB/month. Students who prefer to rent an apartment outside the campus are recommended to consult SWUFE first.
