Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a young public university with a modern campus and over 15,000 students currently in attendance. It is located on the edge of the beautiful Clearwater Bay on the Sai Kung Peninsula and is surrounded by one of the most renowned natural areas in Hong Kong. The city itself is a blend of a modern, 21st century lifestyle and a rich historical culture. There is something in Hong Kong for everyone, whether you’re a city lover who enjoys the hustle and bustle, or a nature enthusiast who enjoys hiking or swimming in one of the city’s nature reserves and beaches. The city is also an international center for business, with a booming reputation for trade and finance.

Academic Details:

The university offers courses in 5 programs for summer exchange students. These are Science, Engineering, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Science, and Interdisciplinary Programs. The program is 8 weeks long, and students are allowed to take up to three courses during their exchange. Classes are usually 3 credits each, so students are required to take between 3 and 9 credits during the session. Grading varies from class to class, but typically consists of class participation, projects, labs, mid-terms and a final exam at the end of the term. The university’s grading scale ranges from A+ to F, based on evaluations of performance instead of a number grade, ranging from excellent to failure.

Housing Details:

University Accommodation is compulsory for all exchange students studying in the summer term. Students can choose from their 9 residence halls and will be given a room assignment at random. Rooms will be double occupancy equipped with wifi, air conditioning, showers and toilets, desk, chair, bookshelf, bed and wardrobe, mini refrigerator, television, pantry with microwave, telephones, washing machines and dryers. Personal items, such as bedding, are not provided by housing.
