#Lyon100 Tree Giveaway!
In celebration of our Centennial and Arbor Day Hawaiʻi, we are giving away 100 trees via our Instagram @uhlyonarboretum!
Did you know that Arbor Day in Hawaiʻi is celebrated on the first Friday of November? It was first celebrated on November 3, 1905, with over three thousand trees planted throughout the islands! On Arbor Day of 1906, Queen Liliʻuokalani planted a royal palm for the students of Lahainaluna School on Maui. She told the boys “that as that tree grows up in strength and beauty, so I hope that they will grow also, strong and noble, and that they will be a pride to their parents to the school and the country”.
Each week in October we will post a different trivia question about Lyon Arboretum. The first one hundred people to answer the questions correctly AND tag at least three friends will win a Native Hawaiian or Polynesian-introduced tree! Each week we will choose 20 winners. Trees include ʻōhiʻa lehua (Metrosideros polymorpha), ʻōhai (Sesbania tomentosa, arborescent var.), milo (Thespesia populnea), and more.
Pick up for the trees will be here at Lyon Arboretum on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Winners will be assigned a pick up time .
We will have our arborist and plant experts from Lyon Arboretum and the ʻŌhiʻa Legacy Initiative on hand to give plant care tips and to answer questions.
Remember to follow us on Instagram @uhlyonarboretum for your chance to win a beautiful Hawaiian tree!
