MAUŌ: Rooted in Sustainability

This fall, young explorers will discover what it means to live more sustainably while learning and playing in the beautiful surroundings of Lyon Arboretum. Through hands-on activities, outdoor explorations, games, and creative projects, campers will investigate how plants, animals, and people rely on our natural resources.

Along the way, campers will explore ways we can care for our Hawaiian environment – From reducing waste and reusing resources to understanding how healthy forests, water, soil, and biodiversity help sustain life. Campers will learn how small actions can make a difference!

Join us for a week of fun discovery as we lean how to mālama our environment and help create a sustainable future!

CAMP DETAILS

Date: October 5th – 9th

Time: 8:30 am – 2:30 pm (Drop-off from 8:00 am; pick-up by 2:45 pm)

Open to children who are enrolled in Kindergarten through 4th grade (2026–2027 school year). This camp is best suited for kindergarteners who are at least 5 1/2 years old and comfortable participating independently in a full-day outdoor camp.

Campers must be comfortable participating outdoors in all weather conditions and be able to follow directions and work cooperatively in a group setting.

Enrollment is limited to 15 campers per session.

Cost: $360 per session. Payment is due one week after registration confirmation.

Refunds: If Lyon Arboretum needs to cancel the camp (e.g., due to COVID-19), all families will receive a full refund. If a family that has already paid needs to cancel their registration & withdraw their campers, the refund policy will be as follows:

More than 2 weeks prior to the first day of the camp session in question: A full refund will be issued.
Less than 2 weeks prior to the first day (even if registering later): a 50% refund of the camp cost will be issued.
On or after the first day of camp: no refund or credit will be issued.
If you need to withdraw your camper(s), please notify the Business Office immediately at 808-988-0456 and email LyonEdu@hawaii.edu. Please leave a message with the Business Office if they are unable to answer the phone.

Registration Dates: Registration opens Monday, August 24th, and closes Friday, September 18th .

We will accept forms starting at 12:00 am, Monday, August 24th. If forms are timestamped before 12:00 am on August 24th, we will kindly ask you to resubmit them.
We will send a courtesy email informing you to resend the forms on the correct date.

HOW TO REGISTER

1. Fill out the GOOGLE FORM, which opens on August 24th. Further instructions will be found on the form. If you submit it before August 24th, it will NOT be accepted. The submission timestamp cannot be earlier than August 24th, 12:00 am.
2. There are two documents you will need to have completed along with the Google Form. Instructions for submitting the documents are in the Google Form. As a courtesy, you can download and fill out the documents to have ready to upload on August 24th. DO NOT SEND THEM PRIOR TO August 24th. Here is the link to the two forms:
