\nGerman<\/h2>\nDelta Phi Alpha<\/strong>
\nThe National German Honor Society seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and to provide an incentive for higher scholarship. The Society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture.\nThe German Club<\/strong>
\nGerman Club provides opportunities for students to use the German language and be exposed to German culture outside of the classroom. Some examples of the activities include: Kaffeestunde (German Conversation), German movie screening, Guest speakers, Celebration of German Unity Day, Celebration of Oktoberfest, Holiday Party.\nRussian<\/h2>\n
Russian Club<\/strong> meetings take place on Wednesdays, at 3:30 pm in Wiswell Room (252 Moore Hall). Please see our calendar for specific dates, times and locations. In addition to the rich educational content, we offer to our students and the UH Manoa community, we always serve tea and sweets in the best traditions of Russian hospitality. Students enrolled in UH Manoa Russian and LLEA classes are eligible for extra credit points.<\/p>\nSpanish<\/h2>\n
Sigma Delta Pi<\/strong> is a prestigious honor society that started in 1919 at the University of California, Berkeley, by an undergraduate student named Ruth Helen Barnes. The Society’s mission is to:<\/p>\n\n- To honor those who excel in the study of the Spanish language and in the study of the literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking world;<\/li>\n
- To foster an understanding, appreciation and respect for the peoples, cultures and societies of the Spanish-speaking world;<\/li>\n
- To honor those who have promoted and reinforced a better understanding of the contributions of the Spanish-speaking world;<\/li>\n
- To serve its membership in support of the Society’s goals and ideals.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
Members gain experience by organizing events as Officers (i.e. President, V.P., Secretary, etc.), promoting Hispanic Culture, speaking Spanish, and the possibility of accessing many lucrative resources (i.e. scholarships, awards, grants, and even discounts on hotels and insurance). The more Sigma Officers are involved with the UHM chapter, the more likely it will benefit them in their personal and professional lives.
