Dr. Eric M. Thau is Associate Professor of Spanish and Latin American & Iberian Studies, as well as the Undergraduate Advisor for Spanish for the last 15 years. He teaches Spanish and Latin American Film, 19th, 20th and 21st Century Spanish Literature, and Cultural Studies of Spain. In 2007 he received the Distinguished Teaching Award from the College of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics.

Dr. Thau has published extensively on Spanish Film, and sits on the board of the journal Studies in European Cinema. He has also presented dozens of papers at conferences on Hispanic Cinema, including the European Cinema Research Forum in Bath, England, and as invited guest speaker at the University of Aberystwyth, Wales.

Dr. Thau is responsible for developing several film classes at UHM, both in English for LAIS and in Spanish for the major program. He teaches MA students regularly and has served on MA theis committees. His service work also includes serving in the UHM Faculty Senate and as UHPA union representative for LLEA.
