We want to extend our congratulations in recognizing two current students in the Department for their awards received in 2022. Both are MFA students with a concentration in Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA).
Olivia Coughlin received the Don and Elizabeth Doyle Fellowship given to an outstanding graduate-level student of demonstrated artistic ability in the area of Theatre for Youth and Nathan Drackett received the Winifred Ward Scholarship, given to an outstanding graduate-level student who has demonstrated intellectual and artistic ability in the area of child drama/theatre.
The Doyle Fellowship honors the TYA work of Don Doyle, who was the instructor of Tamara Montgomery at Arizona State University; Montgomery later went on to found the TYA program at UHM. TYA student Yasu Ishida previously won the award in 2014.
UHM has had two other recent winners of the Winifred Ward Scholarship: Todd Farley (2018) and Margot Fitzsimmons (2016).
Both awards were presented and funded by the affiliated organization of AATE (American Alliance for Theatre & Education).
Congratulations!
