Ernie Provencher is a versatile and accomplished bassist who has played as a freelance performer while living in Boston, NYC, Helsinki, Santa Cruz, CA., Hong Kong, and Honolulu. Ernie has played for recordings, Broadway shows, and has performed worldwide. He has written numerous compositions for dance and has been a musician at the Theater Academy of Finland and the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts. He is active in music education as the band teacher at Hanahauʻoli School, as a lecturer in Music in the Department of Theatre and Dance at UH Mānoa, and teaches private students. He has played with a wide variety of musicians including Michael Franks, Eartha Kitt, Joanne Brackeen, Curtis Fuller, Chico Freeman, Mick Taylor, Dan Hartman, Jeff Peterson, Bill Tapia, Mihana Souza, Makana, Gabe Baltazar, and Del Beazley. Ernie received a Master of Music in Double Bass Performance from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
