UHM presentations and travel awards: BUCLD

The Boston University Conference on Language Development celebrated its 50th year this November. Many UHM faculty, students, and alumni were involved in research presentations, including PhD student Wataru Sugiura who was selected as a recipient of the CJS Graduate Student Travel Award from the University of Hawaiʻi Japan Studies Endowment and as a recipient of a Paula Menyuk Award. These awards supported Wataru’s presentation titled “Syntax First: Re-examination of Clefts in Child Japanese” (coauthored with Kamil Deen). Other presentations included ones by Akari Ohba (PhD, 2024), Wataru Sugiura and Hiryuki Shimada; Elaine Lau (PhD, 2016) and Anna Nikishina; Youngin Lee (PhD, 2025); PhD student Claire Noelani-Kong Johnson, V. Andrew Stenger, Jonas Vibell, and Kamil Deen: PhD student Anupama Reddy and Kamil Deen (two presentations); Gyu-Ho Shin (PhD, 2020) and Seongmin Mun; Tetsuya Sano, Akari Ohba, and Kamil Deen. Congratulations to all of the UHM presenters!
