UHM at the 27th International Conference on Historical Linguistics (ICHL 27)
UH Mānoa Linguistics had a strong showing at the 27th International Conference on Historical Linguistics (ICHL 27), held August 18-22 in Santiago, Chile. Leah Pappas presented the paper “The development of voice marking in Hawu” co-authored with Tamisha Tan (Nanyang Technological University). Shelece Easterday presented the paper “A typology of vowel quality changes” co-authored with Joan Bybee (University of New Mexico). PhD student Blaine Billings presented the paper “Historical linguistics data citation and reusability with a case study of the Sumatran comparative database”. PhD student Augie Spendley presented the paper “The Road to Pre-Nihali: Lexical stratigraphy in a language isolate of India”.
