UHM and award-winning presentation at NWAV-Asia Pacific

PhD student Carolyn Siegman won an award for Best Student Oral Presentation for her paper “Acoustic and perceptual quality of taps in English-Korean bilingual speech” at NWAV-Asia Pacific in Singapore on August 6, 2025. Mie Hiramoto (PhD, 2006) delivered the keynote address “From tag to question marker: Functional transfer and syntactic variation of ‘is it’ in colloquial Singapore English”, Thomas Kettig (PhD, 2021) presented “Internal linguistic conditioning of /t~k/ variation in Niʻihau Hawaiian”, and Andrew Cheng and Ha’a Solomon co-presented a new paper entitled “Heritage Speakerhood in the Hawaiian Context”. Well done, all around!
