Iwasaki & O'Grady publish new book
A new peer-reviewed, open-access book co-edited by Shoichi Iwasaki (Professor Emeritus, UCLA) and William O’Grady, Endangered and Marginalized Languages in East and Southeast Asia, showcases ways community members and linguists -- including Orlyn Esquivel (PhD in progress), Nala Lee (PhD, 2014), Anongnard Nusartlert (PhD, 2023), and Sejung Yang (PhD, 2018) -- are working to protect and revitalize languages in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia. This volume is part of the series Endangered and Lesser-Studied Languages and Dialects, whose editors include Shin Fukuda. In the past year, William has also delivered three keynote lectures related to language acquisition, language revitalization, or language loss, at Korea University, Jeju National University, and Harvard University.
