Tragopogon.mirus is an allotetraploid species (2n=24) derived from hybridization between T. dubius with yellow heads (2n=12) and T. porrifolius with purple heads (2n=12).  The first image below shows a mix of the parental species and an individual with hybrid morphology, (light purple head with yellow center, circled).  This individual is either a sterile F₁ hybrid or the derived fertile allotetraploid, T. mirus. Simple pollen and seed fertility tests would likely resolve this question.
