Short Bio
I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki in northern Greece. I hold PhD (Fisheries Biology and Management), MSc (Hydrobiology-Aquaculture), and BSc (Biology) degrees from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. I did my first postdoc at the University of Rhode Island, RI, USA and my second postdoc at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, MA, USA. I have participated in multiple national and international research projects and have collaborated with colleagues across continents and disciplines. I am a reviewer for more than 27 scientific journals. I have been teaching in undergraduate and graduate courses and have provided volunteer work in environmental NGOs.
Research interests
I view the marine world through an ecosystem-based and ecocentric lens. My work broadly explores how natural and anthropogenic pressures, including fishing and climate change, impact marine life. I use ecosystem and stock assessment models to evaluate the effectiveness of management measures, such as marine protected areas and fishing restrictions, in enhancing ecosystem resilience and supporting sustainable fisheries.
