On Dec. 2, 70 Liholiho Elementary School 5th graders and their chaperones came to visit Hamilton Library. Allison ArakawaCourtney NomiyamaSarah NakashimaKrickette PacubasAni Kawada, and Sachiyo Kawaiʻaeʻa guided six groups of students around the library, where they visited:

  • Carla Hose and Patty Tanoue in Access Services, who showed them our loanable technology gear.
  • Jonathan Young, who shared about our Science & Technology Collection.
  • Leilani DawsonDawn Sueoka and Helen Wong Smith, who talked Archives & Manuscripts.
  • Mitsu Nakamura, who wowed them with our Asia Collection.
  • Jodie Mattos, who organized the tour, and showed students some of the coolest stuff from our Hawaiian Collection.

A highlight of the tour was when Kazuko Hioki and Anna Maupin took students into the freezer, which is used to mitigate insect and mold damage and help preserve valuable collections. You can see a video of their reaction here.

The purpose of the Liholiho Elementary students’ visit was to encourage them to go to college – mahalo to all who helped do just that!
