This past Saturday, January 17, 2026, the CJS faculty, staff, students and community members participated in the cleaning and maintenance of the Ehime Maru Memorial in Kaka’ako Waterfront Park.
Director Levin and Mr. Ken Saiki, Director of the Ehime Maru Memorial Association, spoke on the historical context of the Ehime Maru Memorial and why we are one of many community organizations that participate in the cleaning of the memorial.
With 23 participants—including CJS faculty, Japanese language instructors, former EPIC interns, Japanese studies students, and CJS friends and family members—this is one of the largest turnout to date. We are grateful to Mr. Saiki and the CJS community for showing up and for their continued dedication to honoring the memories of those who were lost in the accident.
