Congratulations to CJS faculty Julie Iezzi (Professor of Theatre and Dance) on a successful inaugural year of the UHM Summer Kabuki Training Institute. This was a two-week intensive training (August 1-18) with eight-generation Kabuki Master, Ichikawa Monnosuke, and the first of many more summer workshops with Monnosuke-san. We are grateful to Julie Iezzi, the main organizer of the showcase, and Monnosuke-san for his dedication and commitment to continue supporting kabuki at UHM through this rare and rich opportunity to train with a kabuki master and professional.
UHM Summer Kabuki Training Institute is co-hosted by the UHM Dance and Theatre department and Outreach College. The news of workshop and showcase are also covered by UH News, Hawaiʻi Public Radio, and Hawaii News Now.
“Performing + Exploring Kabuki @ UH Mānoa” exhibit at the UH Hamilton Library, Asia Collection (4th floor), is curated by CJS faculty Mitsutaka Nakamura (Japan Studies Librarian). The exhibit opened on August 18, 2025 and will run through September 30, 2025.
