Bento Box Series-Fall 2024: CJS Graduate Student Panel Discussion

The Center for Japanese Studies hosted our Bento Box event for Fall 2024. This was an informative CJS Graduate Student Panel Discussion on funding opportunities for graduate students in Japanese Studies at UHM. This hybrid event took place on November 26, 2024 at Moore 319 (Tokioka Room), and online via Zoom application.

Prof. Lonny Carlile, welcomed attendees with an opening remarks as acting Director, on behalf of the CJS Director Mark Levin. The panel featured four CJS graduate students from various fields within Japanese Studies who have received funding from our center and elsewhere to further their research. Drawing from their own successful applications, the panelists offered invaluable insights into available scholarships, grants and fellowships that they have applied. The students discussed strategies to find funding sources, manage deadlines and highlight research plans.

The panelists are:

        1. Aya Shirayama, Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Sociology
        2. Jane Traynor, Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Theatre & Dance
