Program Description

Summer 2026 SVIP Dates: Monday, June 8 – Friday, August 14, 2026 (10 weeks)

Commitment: Full-time at 40 hrs / week

Headquarters United States Indo-Pacific Command (HQUSINDOPACOM) offers opportunities for current and former undergraduate & graduate students through our Student Volunteer Internship Program (SVIP). The SVIP provides students with a rewarding and desirable internship opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the diverse environment of US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM).

This program is open to qualified students and recent graduates interested in joining the next generation of security defense forces in our nation’s largest combatant command. This program will allow students to explore career opportunities within a professional work environment while learning about the Department of Defense mission and objectives in the Indo-Pacific region. Students will grow in personal and professional skills through mentoring and developmental activities which encourage engagement with other professionals and students.​

  • Personal and professional development opportunities within the Department of Defense
  • Networking across multiple government agencies (State Department, Justice Department, DHS, etc.)
  • Opportunities for exchange with allies and partners including projects involving foreign policy strategy, defense, and security.
  • Development of technical; research and analysis; communications; presentation; and other relevant skills.

Summer Eligibility

  • Undergraduate student (both 2 and 4-year programs eligible), graduate student, or recent graduate (start date of internship must be within 2 calendar years of graduation date)
  • U.S. Citizen (Dual-Citizens are not eligible)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale)
  • Able to commit to the 10-week, 40 hr/ week program
  • Hold an existing clearance or able to obtain an interim clearance

How to Apply

If you meet ALL of the above eligibility requirements, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Prepare your resume or CV (limit 2-pages) as a .docx or .pdf file
  2. Prepare your Letter of Interest (limit 1-page) as a .docx or .pdf file
  3. Obtain a .docx or .pdf copy of your school transcript (unofficial transcripts acceptable) demonstrating:
    • Your current enrollment or recent graduation
    • Your GPA
  4. Obtain .docx or .pdf copies of up to two Letters of Reccomendation to the Summer 2026 SVIP
    • This step is OPTIONAL. Letters of Recommendation are not required to apply to the Summer
      2026 SVIP.
    • If you decide to submit Letters of Recommendation, you must include copies of the letters with
      your application. Letters from recommenders will not be accepted separately.
  5. Send the above prepared materials via email to: indopacom.hmsmith.pcj1.mbx.student-internship@us.navy.mil
    • Use your school email, if available
    • Include your full name and “Summer 2026 SVIP” in the subject line of the email
    • Include a greeting, body text, and closing signature in the email message
    • Make sure that all prepared materials are attached as .docx or .pdf files
    • Ensure that each file is titled with your full name and the type of document.
      • For example: Jane Doe_Resume.pdf
  6. All applicant emails must be received no later than 11:59 pm HST on Friday, October 31, 2025 to be considered. Any applicant emails received after this point will not be considered.
