Timpuyog Organization
Sinnokami
Timpuyog (“togetherness”) is the organization of students enrolled in various courses offered by the Ilokano Language and Literature Program (ILLP) at UH Mānoa. These courses span 400-level Ilokano language, Philippine critical discourses, popular culture, Philippine cinema, and translation/interpretation studies in Ilokano. Timpuyog brings students together to build linguistic and cultural competencies and to recognize the importance of Ilokano in Hawaiʻi and the history of Philippine diaspora—with Ilokano as a historic language of Filipino communities in the U.S. The organization works in tandem with ILLP, holds fundraisers for the Ilokano B.A. Scholarship, and trains members for leadership roles in community and professional life.
Dagiti Objectives and Purpose
- Serve the needs of students of the Ilokano Language and Literature Program and others interested in the Ilokano language and Philippine culture.
- Promote the Ilokano language and Philippine culture in the community and instill pride in Ilokano heritage.
- Develop leadership skills among students and prepare them for civic and professional roles.
- Help students build proficiency in Ilokano and awareness of Filipino traditions and values through meaningful language and cultural activities.
- Serve the community through cultural presentations and encourage Ilokano students to speak Ilokano.
- Act as role models for Filipino youth.
Membership
- Open and free to current UH Mānoa students, faculty, and staff.
- Anyone enrolled in Ilokano classes under ILLP (including IP courses taught by ILO faculty) is an automatic member.
- Any person who subscribes to the organization’s purposes may become an active member by adopting the constitution and being introduced at a general meeting.

Language and Cultural Piknik
Our first major event of the semester. This past Fall Piknik was themed around Kammayet (An encounter). We hope you will learn more about the Ilokano language and culture and meet new people.

Join us on our second major event of the semester. Anyone enrolled in Ilokano courses will showcase their talents through skits, musicals, and acting. Previous semester around (SPRING 25) was themed "Siasinno Kadakuada?". All performances will be done in Ilokano.

Our team is dedicated to raising funds for the organization, so we can continue to support the events and activities of the Ilokano Language and Literature Program. A portion of the funds raised also gets donated into the B.A. in Ilokano Scholarship Fund to help students on their academic journey. Scholarships are availble to those who are declared majors or minors.
