NOTE TO APPLICANTS

Student Housing inventory is limited and room availability is not guaranteed.  How applications are prioritized can be found at https://manoa.hawaii.edu/housing/housing_priorities.  We encourage all interested applicants to apply as early as possible to have the best chance to secure a space on-campus. Alternative housing options can be found at https://www.hawaii.edu/housing.

WHO CAN APPLY

Residents must be enrolled at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa as full-time students during each semester of the academic year. A minimum of 12 credits (undergraduate), or 8 credits (graduate) per semester, is required to be a full-time student.

Full-time students enrolled at the University of Hawaiʻi at West Oahu, Honolulu  Community College, Leeward Community College, Kapiolani Community College or Windward Community College are eligible to apply for housing. However, spaces will only be made available after all eligible full-time University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa students have been assigned.

Residents interested in living on campus during the summer must be registered for at least three units of credit for the duration of each six-week session that they intend to live on campus. Combined session residents must meet these eligibility criteria for both summer sessions and be registered for a minimum 6 credits or more with 3 credits of courses taken during each summer term.

Failure to comply with these eligibility criteria may be grounds for immediate contract termination.

STEP 3

COMPLETE PART 1 OF APPLICATION ONLINE

Once you have reviewed the above information, select an application below to begin the process. Complete Part 1 of the application along with the non-refundable $25 application fee. A UH ID number is required to apply.

*Please note that for 2024-25 Academic year applications, the on-time application deadline is June 1, 2024 at 11:59pm HST. Applications will be accepted after the June 1 deadline, but will only be assigned on a space-available basis after all on-time applications are processed.

STEP 4

COMPLETE PART 2 OF APPLICATION ONLINE (On-time applicants only)

All applicants who complete Part 1 of the application online and complete the University’s partial tuition payment requirement by the on-time deadline will be required to complete Part 2 of the application in June. Part 2 of the application will be emailed to applicants’ UH email address on June 3, 2024 and is due no later than June 10, 2024 at 11:59pm HST.

**This step is required of all applicants who completed Part 1 of the application on-time. Please monitor your UH email for instructions for completing Part 2. Any on-time applicant who does not complete Part 2 by the June 10 deadline will be assumed to no longer be interested in housing and their application will be cancelled.

STEP 5

MONITOR YOUR EMAIL FOR UPDATES ON YOUR APPLICATION

Applications will be sorted based on the prioritization criteria set by the UH Board of Regents. Housing offers will be sent out in batches to hawaii.edu email addresses.

Students that do not receive a housing offer will automatically be placed on a waitlist that follows the prioritization criteria noted above. We strongly encourage those still on the waitlist to explore UH-affiliated housing and off-campus options, and have a contingency plan in place.

Please note that housing offers and waitlist letters will be sent from uhmsh@hawaii.edu. We encourage applicants to add this email to their contacts to minimize the possibility of messages being filtered by email clients.

STEP 6

SECURE YOUR HOUSING & NEXT STEPS

Prospective residents that receive an offer for on-campus housing must return a signed housing contract and remit a $400, non-refundable reservation fee within 1 week of receiving the housing offer.

Please allow a few business days for your housing charges and reservation fee payment to be posted to your MyUH account. To ensure proper credit, you may utilize the Line payment method to pay for your remaining housing rent and meal plan charges at https://go.hawaii.edu/gTy.

If you are unable to submit full payment, you are also encouraged to sign up for the University’s payment plan.

IMPORTANT: Please be prepared to respond to your housing offer when it arrives. If you are relying on financial aid to help cover your housing costs, please apply as early as possible. Failure to return a housing contract and remit the non-refundable deposit will result in cancellation of your assignment offer. If you’re still interested in on-campus accommodations, you will need to reapply and you will be placed at the bottom of the waitlist.

WAITLIST FAQS

If you’ve been placed on a waitlist, you may have some questions about what to expect. Check out the FAQs below. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, call us at (808) 956-8177 or email uhmsh@hawaii.edu.

Not everyone who is placed on the housing waitlist will receive an offer to live on-campus. Over 19,000 students attend UH Mānoa each year and there are approximately 3,100 beds for students to reside on campus.

While we are unable to disclose a specific number on the waitlist due to a number of variables implicit in the assignment process, we are able to communicate the application priority group that is currently under review and offers are being extended for. This information will be provided on the top section of the apply page starting in Mid-June.

Applicants who are waitlisted when the initial round of housing offers are extended will receive notification in early June. If space becomes available, individuals will receive housing offers based on priority criteria established by the University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents. If you are still on the waitlist as of July 18th, we strongly encourage you to explore off-campus housing accommodations.
